What a shame! Those are/were fantastic cars. I wonder if GM can fix any damage that they received.:dunno:

There are a few links to the local news in the Homecoming thread. The good news is the 1983 one of a kind was saved. The news reported that some of the cars do not have parts available. Only time will tell. I'm sure if anyone can get parts they can.

Sinkholes / Karst are common in KY. Especially in the area near the NCM.

Sinkhole Update #2
In our effort to continue to provide up to date information...

The National Corvette Museum will be open beginning Thursday, February 13 for tours. The Skydome portion of the tour will be closed to the public. The Museum is open daily, 8am-5pm CT and is located at I-65 exit 28.

The structural engineering firm did determine that the perimeter of the Skydome is stable. We have worked with our insurance adjustor to retain Scott, Murphy and Daniel as our construction manager and they will be coordinating all work moving forward.

All cars that were on display in the Museum's Skydome not affected by the sinkhole have been safely removed.

As an update, photos of the sinkhole, cars that were affected (before the collapse), and readerboard information on each car can be viewed and downloaded here.

Video footage, including surveillance footage of the sinkhole collapse, helicopter drone footage inside the sinkhole and more are on our You Tube channel here.

Those wishing to make financial contributions to the Museum may do so on our website here.

Release from Earlier Today

We received a call at 5:44am from our security company alerting us of our motion detectors going off in our Skydome area of the Museum. Upon arrival it was discovered that a sinkhole had collapsed within the Museum. No one was in or around the Museum at the time. The Bowling Green Fire Department arrived on the scene and secured the area. The Fire Department has estimated the size of the hole is 40 feet across and 25-30 feet deep.

It is with heavy hearts that we report that eight Corvettes were affected by this incident. Those cars include:

1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors
The other six vehicles were owned by the National Corvette Museum including:

1962 Black Corvette
1984 PPG Pace Car
1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette
1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette
2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette
2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette
None of the cars affected were on loan from individuals. The Skydome exhibit area of the Museum is a separate structure connected to the main Museum. A structural engineer is now on-site to assess the existing damage and stability of the surrounding areas. The Museum is closed to the public for the day to allow us to carefully assess the situation. We will keep everyone informed as we know more.

With the 20th Anniversary celebration, Grand Opening of the NCM Motorsports Park, and the National Corvette Caravan coming August 27-30, we’ve got a lot to be excited about in 2014, and look forward to getting the Skydome repaired and reopened very soon.

The National Corvette Museum is the ‘Gateway to All Things Corvette’ and a member-driven, 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation. Weekly news on the latest Corvette developments, racing updates, event features and raffles are available by subscribing to “NCM eNews” at: corvettemuseum.org/ncmenews. Dedicated to the mission of celebration, education and preservation, the Museum is open seven days a week, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT - located at Exit 28 on I-65 in Bowling Green, KY.

Hey I had a late nite thought. Well at least late for east coast standards. Why not try and do a charity event to help raise funds for the sinkhole displacement. Have a xlr/corvette car corral or something like that.

How about just calling their insurance company?

Never the same

What a terrible tragedy. Even though the cars will be repaired, they will never be the same as the original. Luckily no one was in the area at the time!!

Seeing some of the cars that are obviously buried... all of them may not even BE repairable. But, like you say, nobody got hurt. This could have happened at one of the peak visitation times, instead of 5:30 in the morning...

Ok it's that time of year again. For anyone living in or near St. John's Florida. The fruit cove Baptist church is holding their annual car show and spring fest

Register online at Fruit Cove Baptist Church.
Or contact Lisa Sheffield at lsheffield@fruitcove.com
This is the 14th annual car show and spring fest. Last yr I saw the ad to late. So I just was a spectator. This yr I might register and represent the xlr community.

Better choose Arizona, Dave. Georgia got part of those storms and they don't know how to handle it!! You can jump on a plane and join schooley & I at Sebring in March!

Ok, enough already: I have the MC, XLR and CTS-V in the garage. The SRX is sitting outside and taking it like a champ. In the last week: storm 1- 4-5", storm 2- 8-12", storm 3- 2-3" and today- 1-3". Cabin fever is kicking in and I am seriously thinking about moving to either Georgia or Arizona.

Yeah even here in northern Florida a squall of wind and rain just went through around 430 -530 am. Some trees were blown down. I would stick with mid -south Florida. Or Arizona. I heard from a friend that was the best place to be this winter

I just arrived back in Colorado from Arizona yesterday about noon. Sooooooo Glad to be home in Colorado. Three winters in AZ, Nine in Florida, I would take Florida first. Just wish Florida was closer as the 2,000 mile drive twice a year became too much.

If you do choose Arizona you'll be able to enjoy dust storms! Nice RED dust. Great for sand blasting your paint off of the front of your car and you'll really enjoy that new view from your glazed windshield. :D

Some like it hot, 103 to 110 for MANY months, but you have A/C in your XLR so you'll be okay. You'll even have A/C in your garage!:cool:
