Lifting rear of XLR

Is the XLR on a C5 or C6 frame?

If you want to be exact, neither. As there are small differences between all three.

If close is good enough for you, both. As all three are very similar.

Why,why,why. If you go to ANY Parts counter what would you tell them if they asked you what chassis is it? Of course there's gonna be subtle differences.
Who cares about " four holes" that someone mentioned to you,but can't tell you what their for.
Arn't they just talking about jacking point?:(

I Care, and so do the people designing or assembling the car that rely on parts being correct. They are either the same or they are different. Close only matters in hand grenades and horseshoes. The question is are they the same, and my response was not exactly. Which is accurate.

Who mentioned anything about going to a parts counter, and why does that matter?

I gave the purpose of the holes as given by people working in the plant, who relied on them being there, explained why they are needed. Not just someone mentioning it, but pointed out during a structured training seminar.

I don't think I could get my floor jack under with the center locations because it - the XLR, sits too low, and my jack is very long and low. So i might as well go from the sides first? I have 2 matching floor jacks btw.
 
You can also use 1 or 2 pieces of 2X4's beveled on one end to drive-up/backup onto which should be
high enough to get jack under the car or buy ramps if you plan on doing other work.
 
I have made extensions out of 2X8s to go on my normal ramps that also work well. They also come in handy for normal maintenance.

Another option is a scissor jack.

when I go to the parts store I just give them the make model & year, haven't been asked what chassis car has?? Al

At least according to this article, interviewing Dave Hill, the XLR was designed to be the basis for the next generation Corvette. The article is from 5/26/03. It also has an exploded diagram showing what companies made what parts of the XLR, which is interesting. http://www.pelzer.de/english/pdf/cadillacXLR.pdf

The tone of this article & some others gives the feel that GM never intended to have a long production run for the XLR, & it was just a beta tester for C7 design. Such as this comment when they stopped production: “High-end vehicles tend to come and go, so it’s not unusual when you look across all the luxury makes and brands. Gucci doesn’t keep its most unique handbag season after season; it makes changes.” Quoted here: 2009 Cadillac XLR will be the last
