My XLR/V(s)
2006 Infrared XLR (Beauty); 2008 GT500 (Beast) [sold]; 2007 Black XLR-V (Victor)
Catching way too many bugs - covering the hood all the way up to the windshield! Took Beauty (though the pic is of Victor since he really shows the bug shield best) on what I'm pretty sure is her first long distance road trip to Bowling Green (1500 miles round trip) and she performed great. Super comfortable ride & that big old V8 got 26-28 mpg at 70-75+ mph through some pretty steep mountains. Cadillac managed to make a really great touring car with the XLR, along with everything else it has.

The bugs will have to stay put until this weekend. 5:30 am wake up time for going back to work came a little too quickly for Detail Girl (or "Freak" as I got called at the car show :chuckle - hey, nothing wrong with shiny cars, jewelry, etc.!) to be messing with car cleaning.

OOHHH yea!!! The bugs!!! They are a badge of honor for a long trip!!. I've gotten use to it with every trip I've taken, after all,,, it's a tradition that I arrive wherever we going, with the most bugs and the dirtiest car!!:). But you know what? They always seem to wash off with no problems. As long as I have a good wax job (and I know you do too!! As do all of us).

Amy, glad you made it home safe. I'm sure you'll have both of the cars looking AWESOME in no time. It was so nice to see you again...THANKS for bringing both of your XLRs!

Wow! 1500 miles round trip. That itself is impressive. I must admit, the I have been on several trips from Davenport, Iowa to Chicago, Illinois which is about 490 miles (round trip), and have found the car comfortable. However, I don't know if I would feel the same if I had to go 750 miles (10 to 11 hours driving) in the XLR. It's not as if it has the big cushy seat of a large sedan or SUV. Also I am 6' 2" and the car is low enough that when I exit I have to climb up out of it. Of course with the large sedan or SUV I can either step out or climb down.

Don't get me wrong, I love my XLR

It's just driving 1500 miles in it for me might be a feat.

Thanks Bruce - it was MORE than worth it, even apart from keeping me out of trouble for a while getting things cleaned back up. It was great to finally meet Kathy & her mom, and thank all of you for everything you did to make this a great experience!

Wish I could take credit for 1500 miles in one stretch, but we cheated a little and broke it up into 7 hours & 5 hours, with an overnight stop inbetween, both coming and going. Seven hours was long to me for driving anything, but the car didn't make it any more difficult. I would agree that a long drive for someone who is 6'2" would be a feat - probably have to hang you on an inversion table to straighten you back out!

It was really great meeting you and Victor-V in BG. Glad you had a safe trip home. Wish we could have stayed longer and gotten to know everyone better. Maybe next time. Everyone make us feel welcome. Loved seeing all the XLR's together. It was definitely worth the trip and I personally think the XLR rides as well as any luxury car, I am 5'4" so that may make a difference but I wouldn't hesitate taking this wonderful car anywhere. My only issue for travel is cargo space. If you don't want to put the top down it is acceptable but if you do, it is rather difficult especially if you want to bring chairs etc as well as luggage. I just don't see a way to do that. If anyone can show me how to pack better I would appreciate it.

It was great meeting you guys too & we certainly hope you can make it to some more events! It is always really neat to me to see how XLR owners just automatically connect & all are pretty fun!

There are some other threads on here about packing. This one has some good info if you scroll down: https://www.xlr-net.com/forums/events/5964-montana-spring-drive-2013-a-5.html. Basically it comes down to fill the trunk & keep the top up until you get there & unload, or pack a duffel with a few things & use the hotel laundry so you can keep the top down (or bring your other XLR & pack both light enough to keep the tops down!).

Of course if you are traveling 750 miles at 70-75 mph, keeping the top down probably isn't happening (or at least not for me - that would be miserable!) :chuckle And if you want to or can do it, more power to you!

This is the thread for the XLR run next August. The one mentioned by Xlrating is for the cancelled run that was supposed to be this past June, but because of my burns that happened in my shop accident, I had to postpone the run until 2014.

Rod -
Thanks for clearing up any confusion I might have caused. I picked that page out of the thread for the old trip because it had good packing tips. I didn't think about it being confusing regarding the Rocket Run! :pat:

Not a problem... I forgot about the old site having packing tips.
