I like to think of it as a built in cup warmer.... Both my XLRs had/have the same issue. Not sure of a way to fix it.

I believe that in 06 GM put a different heat resistant product in the tunnel area. I don't think anything can be done easily.

I believe you may be right, the center console/cup holder area in my 2006 does not get hot.

Check out the "Subframe Support" thread on the technical forum. This may provide some ideas for heat reduction in the tunnel/console area.

I thought I came across a thread or post sometime ago on here, But don't no where or how to find it I thought it said "Simple fix for hot console" I wish down I'd checked it out when I saw it.

Elite Engineering makes a thermal tunnel plate that really helps this problem in Corvettes. The question is, do Corvettes and XLR's have the same fastener pattern for the part? It seems I wrote them once about this and never heard back. It is worth looking in though, as on my Corvette the part helps a lot.

My Corvette is a C5 or I could do the research myself.
Hope this helps.

Helps here!

Grand daddy I have the solution for u which isn't fully tested yet, but can bet yah it work's. I just did the following things. I doubled up my subframe tunnel plate which isn't necessary in your situation, anyways take your original plate have it ceramic coated. Then buy heat reflective mating through any performance place you'll need a foot x 3-4 feet and put adhesive matting on plate but leave cutout's for bolt heads. I also had my h-pipe ceramic coated this will keep exhaust heat in the pipe and out through the exhaust. Also makes the underneath look really nice. Now you'll contain the heat and the matting and the ceramic coated plate will reflect any thing missed. Only place I saw that could use any other mods if necessary would bend some metal and make heat reflectors for the cats theirs nothing. Hope that will help yah:patriot:

Never heard of ceramic coating where would one get something like that done?
Thx Caddyman Dan

New Tire Opinions

Now it Looks like I'am now in the market for 4 new tires took the Caddy over for PA inspection. So may need to replace them, been reading reviews but don't know which to choose All recomendation would be helpful :dunno: Run Flat or Not :dunno: And what brand of tire I'm so confused to many to choose from! :dunno: Thx in advance! :worship:

I know I'd rather know that I can get where I'm going with run flats - albeit slower - than be stuck possibly in the middle of nowhere with a flat tire. Not to mention possible body damage because of the non-run flat flat tire. When I'm in the market for tires, I WILL be getting run flats.

This forum has really mixed views on run flats... I have had 2 XLRs and think the run flats are awful. The minute you change them you will notice a huge improvement in the ride.. (this is only my opinion, I respect that others feel different)

Grand daddy don't know your area but I would think any powder coating company has the ability. Ceramic coating is the same process just ceramic not plastic. Ceramic has been around and worked for years. Used a lot in my drag cars. Only cost 100 bucks to do plate and h-pipe. As for run- flats been told by MANY in vette and others that the michelins are the best ride of all that's why caddy used them. Heard the good years are hard, pirrelies arn't that bad. Personally feel the ride could use some softening but WILL NOT play with the devil. If something happened to Stella were she would have to get painted, GARBAGE have to get rid of her. Can't have that! Good luck.:rocker:

Now I am really wondering about ride of run flats because when I bought mine it had Goodyear Ultra A/S Eagles that are not run flats and these don't ride all that great, but it could also be that they are in pretty bad condition. I am seriously checking out the Pirelli tires my tire man thats sells us tires for our biz said 4 on the car with Nitrous in tires for less $800.00! The other questionI have is all the work to cool the center console sounds like alot work for my home garage does it all need to be done from the underside of the car, I don't have an available lift?

I hope u meant nitrogen not nitrous and don't see any advantages of it anyway. As for the tunnel plate it's really easy. I lifted the car tires about 6" in the air ,and jack stands. I was already gonna double up tunnel plate so the h-pipe had to come off. Real easy remove 4nuts at the manifolds, then loosen band clamps at the rear for axle section, then remove two spring mount screws by trans. Separate joint at the header area. If your gonna just coat the plate then remove you'll have enough room. If your gonna do the h-pipe then remove completely from axle tubes. I recommend doing the h-pipe. To reinstall slip the exhaust back together before u try to mount up the header area. Then tighten the header area before the slip joint then the spring mount. All in all should only take a hour or two depending on how mechanically inclined. Only need basic tools, and a torque wrench inch pounds for the tunnel plate. Any good mechanic should have one. If you change you oil and even your brakes u should have no problem. Good luck.

Too funny "where was my brain" maybe a shot of nitrous will make it go faster! Anyhow! It does not sound to hard I'm wondering if I can't find somewhere to put the ceramic on if I could just line it with some heat resistant type of insulation. Also mine has the Corsa exhaust system would that be any different up that far? I can't really check anything right now I took it in for PA inspection and while it's there was getting a coolant, trans flush & rear lube change and they found I have coolant leak and parts will not be in to Monday or Tuesday to they get it finished.

Yes they sell a reflective matting that has a sticky side. I purchased from summit about 30 bucks is a 2'x3 piece. You want to cut it about a inch short around the perimeter so it doesn't interfere with the bolts. Just my opinion but after hearing the exhaust u have I found half your problem. I fabricate with metals a lot and know that stainless holds and radiates heat at least 3 times more than regular steel. I love how stainless looks but the heat retention isn't good for us. Nothing to do with it but I bought hooker mufflers, used the stock axle tubes, cut, welded and put some rectangle tips. Want to say in my opinion it BLOWS EVERYTHING I've heard on sound clips, person, anywhere. Sounds quiet rumble at idle, nice and throaty opened up,and no I repeat,NO droning. Could buy four systems with everything coated for the overpriced Corsa. Sorry I just think a lot of people get misinformed, also a lot don't have the experience and when inquiring a lot are directed to the cookie cutter line. Sorry I'm new to the forum and haven't been able to get real answer out of a lot of members. Seems people don't wanna help or give worthy answers and I thought that's what this was for. Inform and maybe help the misinformed. I think the Corsa is good stuff just real pricey for my blood. Full throttle:rocker:

Being that you are new you've got to realize we've heard the majority of problems/questions that owners have a multitude of times. If you were to spend some time checking older posts and doing some searching I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to ask very many questions. We are here to help when we can, but God helps those who help themselves, give it a try.

My bad I thought the forum was for information and help from the masses not cocky answer that people like u keep giving. People don't need to hear those answers they would rather hear real answer to their problem's.:patriot:
