Welcome to the Cadillac XLR Forums!

Important! New thread - Colorado Event

Hi Jean -
I'd be happy to give a shirt design a try. I've done a lot of logo design, so if you give me some parameters, I'll see if I can come up with something that will work for embroidery. You used 3 colors of thread on the last one, right?
Cathy

Right now I'm in the middle of doing 7 cars, a car club logo and a credit union logo and trying to get some stuff done for us. :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly: Sooooooooooooo the sooner I can get the logo and the shirt style and all the orders the better!

Sounds perfect to us! Let's do it! Anything that has wine involved, RA and I are ready!!!:worship:

Here is the web site for the cafe/winery in Salida. www.twistedcorkcafe.com The winery is Mountain Spirits Winery and is part of this complex. I am thinking there could be a stop at the Royal Gorge first and then drive on to Salida which would be hiway 50 "The Big Horn Sheep Canyon" which is along the Arkansas River. Have lunch at the Twisted Cork Cafe, buy the wines you want from the winery and then take hiway 285 to hiway 24 back to Colorado Springs. You would see a lot of pretty country and have some great twisty roads both ways. I usually make the trip that way so I am not back tracking. I also looked up Bishop's Castle and lots of articles and pictures of this are on the internet. I am now using bing for my search and I really find it better than what I used to use. :patriot::patriot::patriot:

Fred & Ingrid (Speedway)
Bruce & Kathy (Cadillac Tech & Photo Girl)

Kevin & Marion (Cubby & Supa Freak)
Cathy & David (Quinn& DD)

If you are a yes vote for CMR please post your yes or PM Little Woman so we can get our count and get your name on the list.

Pretty much I think everyone listed on Post #1 have agreed to stay wherever ...

I think the question should be is there anyone on Post #1 who won't be making reservations at the resort?? Otherwise, I'm thinking we're good to go for at least 10 rooms.

How long of a time frame to we have to book? The on line room rates seem to fluctuate daily ... sometimes for less even if you add the daily resort fees...
Is booking 10 rooms the key to getting the hospitality room? Excuse my naivety, but is that a one time use, or what exactly would we be using it for? :dunno:

I know I'm in the minority, but my vote is still for the Rodeway. After all, how often are we going to use the "extras" that this resort has to offer?? I know in SA, Cindy and I hardly spent any time in the hotel... and it wasn't because the Hampton didn't have the extras - we didn't even use the pool area. We were out in the car enjoying the countryside... or walking about SA...

Okay, so then, maybe I should have stated it this way ...
Robert is negotiating with the CMR ...
If you are not going to stay at the CMR and are booking on your own (at the Rodeway, or wherever) from Post #1 that is what he needs to know. He needs 10 cars to commit. So, Little Woman - your list is current and correct. I will only keep on Post #1 the event attendees. :blinzel:

Madmac and Pobbigguy ....
what's your decision on where you are staying??

Has anyone else decided on the CMR?

Trying to keep this thread at the front.

Has anyone checked the room rates @ CMR lately? If you see a good rate let us know,we will start making reservations.

Bruce :)

I believe there have been 13 XLR owners that have indicated they want to come to Colorado 2010 and 7 have stated they want to stay at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. If you have not stated you are coming or where you want to stay, would you please post so we can have a more accurate number when I talk to Lee at CMR next week. Thanks,

Robert ... any update from the CMR? I keep checking the online rates; they are pretty good right now, I am hoping that Lee will match them at the least. A standard room (AARP rate) is $112, even if we add $15 per PERSON, our rate is $145 ++ of course .... I would think he would do better than that for us booking multi rooms?? I am looking forward to seeing what he has to offer .... Speedway suggested that he throw in free breakfast buffets since they will probably throw out that much food anyway (good thinking, Fred!) ... I still am not clear on what the hospitality room is for; any information?
It appears most of us are booking at the CMR - if there isn't a commitment of 10, please don't sign a contract - he doesn't need one. And we don't want you to be responsible for anything (at least I don't) ... he can just note the computer that anyone booking in our group gets whatever best rate he can do. Oh, and by the way, that we should be able to price match as time goes. Just like the Hilton prices dropped as time got nearer, so might theirs. There's another reason not to sign anything .. :blinzel:
Thanks Robert for being our eyes and ears on this.
I'm already banking on the dates that have been voted on. It seems that the majority of us who have plans to go have already voted and committed to those. Ha-ha, sorry if I sound a little antsy, but all of us do have other vacation plans to make and I'd like to just get going on them by this weekend.
Any thoughts on this??

(Bruce, seems you and I were thinking at the same time!)

Ha-ha, patience has never been used to describe me! I just think that the people who have commited to the May dates are the ones who are coming and should be accomodated ... :blinzel:

Thanks, Robert for explaining the Hospitality Room thing ... sound's pretty nice to have. But if the individual room rates will drop by any considerable amount, as far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't be an issue. The resort does have a couple of bars, and the resort is only a short distance from lots of restaurants - from past experience with the XLR group we always find a place to migrate :)willy_nilly:) .... hopefully the weather will be good enough to spend our nights poolside some of the time too.
Thanks for taking the time to haggle with Lee. I know how busy you are right now; we're all trying to get on with other plans - that's why I'd like to get this nailed down. By the way, the rates I am looking at are the AARP rates, which I don't see in this case shouldn't be extended to everyone in a good size group. Really, since we are a group, you are right, he should be quoting lower than that rates. I would think that since he is negotiating at all that things at his resort are also feeling the economy pinch. Even the Hotel Del Coronado is NOT booked to capacity tonight during the height of the summer season (I checked) ... no one is immune and I don't things are going to get better within the next 10 months.
Anyway, :worship: - thank's again Robert - you know we are appreciative of your wealth of info about this.

Yes Foxy Robin the poll on the dates for this event does close July 14th at 8:31am. Thank you for being our negotiator.:worship: I will remind everyone again if you are interested in staying at the CMR please pm me so I can add your name to the list. We are trying to keep a list going so First Robin has something to negotiate with. So far these are the people that have showed an interest in staying at the CMR.

You know, it doesn't hurt to keep Lee wondering if we are going to stay there, I don't want him to think we are looking at just the CMR at this point. I know for fact they have been in negotiations with Pikes Peak International Speedway trying to get car clubs to stay with them. Side note, Ruthie you only get away with your impatience because you are so cute. :):):)
I havent been trying Pikes Peak International with any car clubs you must have me confused with someone else. I am signed up with most everyone else at CMR. Once we get the date and place selected then Ruth Ann can then get her post updated with that info I am sure more people will sign up. I know from past experience that a lot of people just dont like to vote on anything but will come. Reference the Breakfast there are sites where CMR is including breakfast with a reservation. As you have stated the hositality room cannot be set up with our bar so as big as this resort is there should be many places for us to meet. I would suggest you ask him to trade off the Hosp room for Breakfast Buffet just a thought.;)

Yes ..... that and a couple of bucks will get me a cup of coffee. :D

Fred is right. Most people who haven't committed are just waiting for decisions to be made so that they can make plans one way or the other. From all of the other meet ups we have experienced that people want to attend, but don't want to be included in the decision-making. Most people do have to fill in their vacation schedules a year prior - we are down to 10 months ... this will go really fast. Once the decision is made I'd like to start a new thread, I think this one is a lot for any newbies to have to maneuver through just to get current information.

I like your trade-off suggestion about the room for the breakfast, Fred. It sounds valid. Again, if it is offered at all, maybe we could have it as well. Even a 10 room initial reservation is gold in these times. We've talked with a number of people who regularly book vacations... they are not traveling their usual itinerary's but rather waiting to see where this economy is going .... a few people that usually travel for company events have said that their events are now going to be held local, and even in their own company board rooms. I KNOW that finances are not a concern for many of you; which is wonderful that you can carry on as usual .... but I do know that it is a concern for other members. I am convinced that Robert will get us good value for our $$ as well as a great place to stay.

I agree once decisions are made a new thread does need to be started. Maybe with the I think you called it CC2010. Is that correct Madam? :dunno:

That is a good idea. It will help people find info faster. We will start our caravan thread soon.
