2016?

Las Vegas.......MAN!:party

Plan it,,,and many will come!

2012, our other brand car club had a five day event in Vegas (168 cars).....base hotel was 'South Point Hotel & Casino' .....great group rate and entire side parking lot to ourselves... No problems and easy freeway access to head out for cruises.....

Just a thought

So much understanding now! And some good laughs too!

Returning from the Carmel show, THE BARBIE CAR hit 50,000 miles!!! We got our '07-V in 2008 with 3,000 miles on it. First thing we did was drive it from Wisconsin to Rendezvous III in Bowling Green, where we were introduced to the group that would take on the (well-deserved) name "Midwest Marauders." From that time on, every mile we've driven to join up with the group has been well worth it! Bowling Green; Madison IN; San Antonio; Colorado Springs; Outer Banks; ALMS & Cadillac races in Ohio, Florida, Georgia and Wisconsin; Spring Drives; Fall Drives; and just "let's meet up and party" [Bobfest, Cubby's, George's] Drives! The friendships that have come because of this car are precious and real - and seems like every time we get together, new and amazing folks join the crew.

I'm sad when I see XLRs with such low miles - their owners are missing soooo much fun. So, "Happy 50K, to The Barbie Car" - every mile has brought a smile! Thank you! Now, please continue to be trouble-free for another 50,000!

On another note:
We've had some discussions/questions about "What's Sconnie?"
Well, some of you received your Sconnie shirts when you came up to Road America... but Sconnie is more than a nickname for someone from Wisconsin - it's kind of a lifestyle. We aren't exactly rednecks, but there are some things that set Sconnies apart. Here's the blurb from the SconnieNation website:

Anyone from Wisconsin, who attends school in Wisconsin, or just loves the dairy state in general can identify with Sconnie. Sconnie is anything of or relating to Wisconsin. Sconnie is an identity. It can be used as a noun ("I am a Sconnie") or an adjective ("Look at that Sconnie truck"). You don't have to be from Wisconsin to appreciate the Sconnie movement. It's all about embracing and celebrating this genuinely Wisconsinesque environment we call home. Sconnie is tailgating, bowling, bubblers, washing cheese curds down with a beer, having a tractor-shaped mailbox, or eating a cream puff. If you like eating a brat and cheering for the Pack, you know what we're talking about.

I now have some physical evidence that will TOTALLY explain SCONNIE:

Hannah and Julia, my daughters, ran a half-marathon in Madison a couple of weeks ago. They asked me to pick them up when they were done, but they told me that it'd actually be awhile AFTER they finished because beer was being served at the finish line. (That's SCONNIE). When they proudly showed off their medals, they pointed out a practical added feature - the medals were bottle openers (That's VERY SCONNIE)!!! I've attached a picture - notice that the commemorative beer cup lists the University of Wisconsin Health Department as a sponsor. (Oh, of the 'running part' not the 'drinking part' I'm almost sure!)

Anyway... Happy Labor Day to you all. Some of us already are beginning to see the leaves changing UP NORT HERE HEY (actually that's more like Minnesota talk, but oh well) and we know that before long our sexy cars will be put to bed for the winter and the flannel all-wheel drive cars will come out. But - that doesn't mean we might not see each other until Spring - hope not, anyway! Enjoy the Fall - MMs: where are we going next???

Well over Labor Day weekend (Friday ) as I headed back home, My check engine light came on. So I went to my dealer and they did a code scan. They told me to bring it in on tues. but after they ran the code scan and left dealer. The engine light went away. The tech guy said he didn't reset it. So when I took it in on Tuesday they found the p0159 in history. The connection terminal tension for b2s2 at pcm. The terminal 16 was loose. The tech spent around 1 hr labor time (maybe a little more) but only charged me the 1hr chArge. So they fixed the problem (as best they could) and told me to run it and keep a eye if check engine light comes back on. They tested it and drove it 2 whole heat cycles. And the code passed both times. Like I said in a earlier post. This yr I've had more problems with the car then any other yr I've owned it. But glad I have the Zurich warranty. It has paid for itself about 5 x already or more.

Well my warranty runs out in oct 2017 or 86758 miles. But I think it'll be the yr before the mileage. Unless I decide to go cross country anytime soon. I only have 43 k on the clock

Corvette with a trunk!

We've all heard our XLRs called a "Corvette in a tuxedo" or a "Gentlemans Corvette'.

Here's something for you.......a Corvette with a trunk.

It's primarily a Holden Ute, produced in Australia by General Motors. I have a friend whose son-in-law is originally from Australia. My friend and his son-in-law own and run a low volume body shop. They purchase incomplete Holden Utes as salvage and rebuild them. They make some modifications and have done some custom units as well.

I stopped by his their shop today and my friend invited me to drive their latest vehicle. It has a GM LS-based engine in it and has had the suspension modified for better handling. It has all the usual power options and comfort features. It has been dyno tested and verified with over 400 hp at the rear wheels.

I can tell you, it is a blast to drive! You can leave it in auto or upshift/downshift manually like our XLRs. It will fly. I never went full throttle since it isn't mine, but it really wanted to go.

The next one, on which they are working now, is going to be red or some variation of red.

What do you think?

It would go well with your El Camino!

I think that was one of the reasons he invited me to drive it.

Pontiac had discussed importing the Holden Ute into the U.S. as a Pontiac back before Pontiac and Saturn were sacked. The 2004 - 2006 GTO was a modified Holden Monaro. The Holden Ute and the Pontiac G8 have a very simular chassis.

At one time, it was going to be named the G8 ST. I would have been interested in seriously looking at one for a possible purchase at the time.

Does anyone remember the Dodge Rampage from built from 1982 to 1984?

see any resemblance? they didn't sell well here either!

Only the very basic fact that they're both sporty truck-like vehicles. GM produced 24,150 in total. They actually are more common than XLRs!

I'm a big GM fan and practically every vehicle that I have ever purchased has been a GM product. I certainly don't want to offend anyone here if they own a SSR, but it's somewhat like the answer to a question no one asked!

My business partner really likes them and confesses a desire to own one.

But I think they didn't sell well for several reasons:

1. They were overpriced. They were necessarily expensive due to the complication of a retractable roof. Great on an XLR, but not such a great feature on a sport pickup. The sticker price was about $42K.

2. The first models were not high horsepower units. They addressed this later, but just like some other vehicles, it came too late.

3. They were "retro" styled. Once again, late to the party. The retro party was a bit crowded by the time the SSR appeared.

4. They came in a limited number of colors.

Again, neat vehicles, but no one really "needs" one. As a result, they didn't sell in large numbers.

The Holden Ute is a big seller in Australia. Several manufacturers produce and sell "Utes" in Australia. The history of the Ute goes back as far as 1934. They have been produced by several different manufacturers. Occasionally, one will make its way to the USA.

The Chevrolet El Camino ceased production in 1987 and the Ford Ranchero in 1979. Other than a few specialty vehicles like the Subaru BRAT, that market has been poorly served. The VW Rabbit pickup would qualify as a Ute and the Honda Ridgeline would as well.

I just like the Holden Ute. If I could have purchased a Pontiac G8 ST, I might have done so.

Picked up a new XLR recently. It's kinda small....

I picked this up recently. It's one I've not seen before in 1/64 scale.

70 degree showroom for as long as she needs too! It's only $100 a month, hell I couldn't find a cold unheated rental building, with no electricity for the battery maintainer for less then $75
So it turn out to be great day after all!

CONGRATS on the trophy - and WOW on the storage deal! That was the real prize!

All shined up & no place to go

Congrats on the award Dan! Know what you mean about the rain - we were going to go to the local Cadillac Club show today but the rain knocked us out of it. So everybody was cleaned up & ready to go ... apparently just so we could admire them in the garage.

I'm sharing a link that could bring back memories of our first car or cars we dreamed of owning when we were teenagers.

You might enjoy seeing your first car ad.

Find your first car or the one you drove while in high school or college; hopefully that particular car brochure is available.

This has to be one of the coolest web sites whether you have gasoline in your veins or not. This particular website features the original factory brochures for nearly every American car you have ever owned or made. Just pick the manufacturer, the year and the model.
