Dear Cubby letter

Dear Cubby,

I've really enjoyed you as my owner, but over the past 2 weeks I've fallen in love with someone else. He's a little older then I am, he has silver hair, but when you're in love age doesn't matter. So I want you to know that I'm not coming home.

Love,
Scarlett-V

P.S. Send money....I need new shoes! :chuckle

Kathy,

I think she's playing you....she pushed her blue OnStar button and said she was being held against her will. She sent me coordinates to come and pick her up tonight.:laugh:She really misses me and the TLC I provide.

Heres the picture!

The Charlotte Motor Speedway and the American Red Cross jointly conducted an event today known as "Laps for Life". It was held at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.

If you preregistered online to be a blood donor, you were treated to several nice perks. They included a pair of tickets to "Pole Night", which is qualifying for the Bank of America 500, a pair of tickets to the Dollar General 300 miles of courage, which is the Sprint Series race, an event T-shirt, a swag bag and best of all, the opportunity to drive your car around the 1.5 mile track for 3 laps!

But of course, here's the main attraction!

Let's see, I've had Lola for almost 5 years .... and she's my daily driver, so, you'd think I wouldn't still get such a thrill every single time I take her out - but I do. The old girl is still as beautiful and wonderous to me today as it was the day I drover her home. Today I was filling her trunk up with bags and bags of groceries thinking how lucky I am to have her to do such mundane errands - later I went to the dentist - he's really more like a friend - we were talking about life in general since we are about the same age .... he owns a fishing boat (you know, the type you moor 'at the club') and he asked if I still had the Cadillac - he said he feels the same way about his truck (and it IS nice) - we agreed that perhaps we feel so grateful to own these beautiful items because we were both brought up with a hand-up instead of a hand-out. He loves the convertible roof - and said that when he got his 3rd kid through college his dream is to buy one of the little Mercedes that have that and hit the road too - we talked about how in our younger days we did the Pacific Coast Highway in whatever car we had at the time .... him a Spyder .... me and Ray a Hyundai ... It was just a fun conversation about the car I thought I would share ....

Love the walk down memory lane. My first "ride down the twisty roads" was an orange Chevy Monza with the big tarantula emblazoned on the hood. (Kind of a 1978 Firebird "wana be" with a big spider instead of a big feathery bird on the hood) Mine was the orange automatic and one of my West Point classmates got the yellow stick. Had to teach him how to drive it because the stick was foreign to him. What you can do with a 305 V8 in a golf cart sized little two door in the hills of New York! Probably a miracle we didn't put them over a ledge....

Have not seen a fully tripped out Chevy Monza Spyder in almost 20 years! I would be surprised that anyone noticed that they quietly faded away... Nevertheless, the XLR is clearly a joy that will be appreciated for more lifetimes than I will ever be remembered. What an awesome vehicle!
I share your thrill in being one of those especially lucky people to own and drive one!
Steve

Steve ... I loved YOUR walk down memory lane .... so I was reading it outloud to Ray ... neither one of us could even remember exactly what a Monza looked like, so we dragged out the ol' car books and checked it out and ... hell yeah! then we remembered it! You're right - it did just sort of fade away - I don't think we have even seen a restored one at any car show that we can think of. Now we will be looking .... if we see one we'll take a picture for you.

Last weekend was the LSX Shootout Finals at Lucas Oil Raceway (Dragstrip) in Indy. We had great weather and instead of parking way out in the fields with the spectators I registered for their Car show and got to park Elwood right between the grandstands and the tower, parallel to the timing lights.

The only reason I was there was to cheer on Elwood's tuner who brought a 1035HP 09 CTS-V (100% street legal) to the races (which I later found out he couldn't compete it cause he ran a 9.56 Friday night and the raceway requires a full cage for any car under 10 seconds). So by the time I got there Saturday he was already packing up to go home.

Elwood was a big hit at the car show and the organizers got a big kick outta reminding me last years Finals were at Gateway International Raceway(5 mile from my house), but they thanked me for making the trip and I won my category of the show.

I'm in there somewhere.

I was a drag racer (not street but strip) when I was in high school and hadn't been to a drag strip for several years. This was a good time and I met more than a few racers I knew from Gateway. The fastest car set a new LSX and track record: 5.99 seconds 260+ MPH. The fastest Cadillac to qualify and finish was black 2009 CTS-V sedan (highly modified) with a best time of 10.815 who finished 5th in the 11 second bracket.

This may look like a msismatched race but it was very close.

Another participant was a white 2011 CTS-V sedan (Maggie and tune) with a 12.371 in the 12 second bracket (finished 9th).

Poor Corvette never stood a chance.

Some of the other entertainment included a burnout contest won by an 87 year old in a 40's pickup truck.

Bumper stands.

And a 300MPH jet car.

Luckily there were no major accidents. The track was well prepped and maintained. Safety crews were quick and efficient. There were just way more racers showed up for this than the organizers had planned for. The track was supposed to shutdown every night at 6PM, but Friday went well past midnight, Saturday went till after 8PM and I didn't stick around Sunday to find out.

Fall road trip

I think we will go for a drive tomorrow. The weather should be good for a run to Madison, IN. We may make a stop in Bethlehem, IN for the Autumn On The River Festival.

We are doing nothing 'car' related this weekend except for driving it to the local casino ;) .

Tomorrow we are taking the 2 youngest grands to The Pumpkin Patch to pick out their carving pumpkins .... well, not just THEIRS. Actually for the last 42 years our tradition has been that the Friday night before Halloween the family table is wrapped in Saran Wrap and the whole family carves their pumpkin .... no contests .... just make our own unique pumpkin.

Two years ago I took my son-in-laws drill and put the widest bit he had in it and just drilled my pumpkin full of polka-dot holes - it actually turned out pretty cool with the candle in it there was a wall full of reflective dots .... Now, to be perfectly honest - my son-in-law was not thrilled with his drill spattered with pumpkin goop - but he was very enthusiastic about the pumpkin ... now that's a good guy. :blinzel:

Sounds like a good time... we're spending Halloween in Las Vegas this year. My brother and his wife are going to be there, so we decided to join them for the weekend. Flying down 10/29 and returning 11/1. Going to see Terry Fator, the amazing ventriloquist that won America's Got Talent a few years ago, on 10/29, and then a dinner, murder, mystery called Marriage can be Murder on Halloween night. On Sunday night we're going to a French Restaurant that my brother and his wife really enjoy. Should be a FUN, long weekend.

Rod .... we LOVED that puppet guy! He is the bomb ... we haven't been to Las Vegas since we met some of the MidWest Marauder's there almost 2 years ago .... Are you guys going to the Eiffel Tower Restaurant or that French restaurant at The Paris??? Where are you staying .... dang ... you guys are so close - if it wasn't Halloween weekend we would have run over and met you for lunch - it's just about 6 hour drive from here.... Maybe next time - have FUN!

Yea... we're really looking forward to Fator (the puppet guy)!!
We're actually staying at the Hampton Airport, ny brother had his reservations there so we decided to stay there also.
Not sure which French restaurant we're going to... all I know is that it's my brother's favorite restaurant in Vegas (and it's run by a couple gay guys).
It would have been great if you guys could have met us for lunch... like you said, maybe next time. Who knows... things may change, give us a call if you're able to make it over!!!

I need to hang around here more often...too much good stuff and I'm doing??????? whatever. You say Monza and I think Corvair....wow, that sure shows my age. Mostly tho, I'm jealous that everyone else was/is driving twisties and Hwy 101 and I'm/was driving thru Ruthann's favorite scenery, cornfields.
