News: Asheville,NC/Charleston,SC Trip April '11

We did the Segway tour the last time we were there and had a blast. You have to make reservations and the phone number for reservations is 828-225-1425.

If you are thinking about doing the Segway tour, you need to call and reserve your spot. They only do a few tours each day with a limited number of spots. :wave:

Make sure and take a look @ this itinerary that xlr05 has put together;

The time for our tours of the Calhoun Mansion in Charleston will be @ 4:00 pm after the Smokey Bones car show.

We will be visiting the Charleston Visitor Center on Tuesday morning April 12th.
375 Meeting Street
800-774-0006

I found this package and thought it would be a great way to experience a lot of Charleston. I will call them today. I would recommend the 1yr.Passport for $64.95 per person. It will give you more time to visit each place. The 2 day Passport for $44.95 must be used in 2 consecutive days.

I have been gone for the last few weeks and have been trying to catch up by reading thru the threads of what is happening.
I put together a summary of what has been discussed.

Attached is the Itinerary of things with phone numbers.

Hunley submarine tour

Bob W suggested we visit the Hunley Submarine while we are in Charleston. Luckily for us, the Friends of the Hunley will be doing tours during the week that we are in town. I'm waiting for a call back to confirm the date & time of our tour. Let me know if you are intersted in a tour of the Civil War Sub. Here is a link;

Running out of time

Well, it's almost time to hit the road to the Carolinas. Hopefully everyone has taken the time to look at the information that has been posted and has decided what they would like to do at both the Biltmore Estate & in Charleston, SC.
Also keep in mind that you can and should do what you are interested in; with or without the group. I want this to be an enjoyable trip for everyone involved. There will be plenty of things to keep us busy...get your rest.:)

June and I tossed the idea around of flying down and meeting up with all of you but the price of flights and a rental it was getting pretty pricey. That was up to a couple of weeks ago when I found a bargin deal but unfortunatly the "Company" had it's plans for me. We were so hoping to meet up and suprise you guys but now that is not going to happen. So all of you drive safe and we will see you in BG.

Take care

It would of been great to have you both join us. Too bad it didn't work out.

It would have been a great surprise to see you guys there!! Too bad it didn't work out.:( See you in Bowling Green, hope spring comes soon for you.

Great job, Dale. I spent last night researching things to do and figured with the 150th of the Civil War going on; Supa & I will probably spend the 12th in the area of our hotel watching all the 'happenings' of the re-enactments, etc.

Charleston bus tour

I just called and reserved a place for Kathy & myself with Doin The Charleston bus tours for Tuesday April 12 @ 9:30 am. This is a great way to see Charleston. The tour is 90 minutes & that includes a stop @ The Battery. The bus holds 25 people so it will fill up fast. There are tours @ Noon, 2:30 pm, & 4:30 pm. We will depart from the Charleston Visitor Center. We will purchase our tickets there ($20 adults). They ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled departure time. Here is a link;

If you get a chance to visit Savannah, you'd love it. I like it better than Charleston There are lots and lots of great restaurants and shops on the waterfront. If you go, you must sample at the Peanut Shoppe and at River Street Sweets. The Hyatt is a great place to go because it is on the river, in the middle of everything. They have military and senior discounts. We just went last weekend. We go every chance we get!

Batgirl,

Great to see you back on here. Why aren't you joining us on this trip--you're a native and could be a tour guide!!:lol::lol: There's still time to join us!!!

Hope everyone that makes the Biltmore trip has a safe and great time. Loved the tour when we experienced it in 2008. My V and I have a road trip to Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa for a spring scrimmage Saturday. Looking forward to some road time with her!
