Funfest 2011 (Bobfest)

Hi Sandy,
You guys maybe the only folks coming in Thursday. Phread was going to, but plans changed. I registered for the fun run, but not sure if I'll be able to make it. By all means make a stop out here when you get in.

Some light showers moved through last night and possibly today. Cool dry air behind it. We really needed the precipitation.

Ok, will do. We are sitting in a Holiday Inn in Marshal Michigan, about 4.5 hrs from Mattoon. We are going to call the hotel to see if we can confirm an early check in. I still dont know what time the fun run starts etc. I guess we will see you tomorrow! Are you home or at work tomorrow?

I am here at the house. Have to run to Campaign sometime to pick up salmon at Sams club. Call anytime

The house is coming together, but still we are so far behind. I will have 4 contracting crews here today. 2 are working right now. One is hammerdrilling a hole in the house.

Diane and I made it to just North of Memphis and found a hotel. Great weather today, had the A/C off about half the drive and just a little rain in Northeast Texas. About 500 miles today should shorten the drive some for tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow afternoon.

Unfortunately I have been very ill the past two weeks and I continue to be slow to mend. I had hoped to be well enough to make the trip to BobFest/FunFest but my time has run out.

Therefore I sent my car pass to Bob in hopes someone that needs one can use it and park with the rest of the XLR group. Let Bob know if you have a need...

Also I have a reservation at the Hampton Inn (I am told it is across the street from the Holiday Inn where the group is centered) that can be used if someone needs a place to stay Friday and Saturday night. I think the rate is about $109 per night.
If someone wants to use that room let me know. I will not cancel my reservation until tomorrow after noon. If you have an interest don't be shy; I will help to ensure you get the room.

Bummed out that I must miss this trip. Wish this had gone better.
Have fun!

Steve

Great day! Arrived in Mattoon, checked in with Bob (he has way too much going on) so we 'retreated' and found a wand style car wash & got all the road grime off. Decided to head to Effingham/MAM to see if we could pick up our registration package. Got that then headed towards town (was not sure where we were going) saw a cop car blocking an intersetion then he drove on so we followed him.

Caught up to the vettes etc. As we came around a curve I was commenting on all the vette tail lights & HEY there is an XLR! Totally destinctive tail lights in a sea of round Vette lights. A few seconds later the XLR owner saw us (we were about a dozen cars back behind him & the cops) so his arm shot up in greeting. Next thing we know the traffic is dead stopped so guess who comes running back but Gizmo, asking the police if I could drive up and join him, which we did. Anyway ended up downtown in overflow parking at a bank near the Weiner Mobile. That is when I forced Steve & Gizmo go get their photo taken. :chuckle Anyway we wandered around the down town square a bit, couldn't find a restaurant with any seating so ate something on a bun. The downtown thing is quite a snooze fest, we watched some guy get an award for his really nice 61 then decided it was too much excitement for us  and so we headed back to Mattoon. Gizmo is headed back home for the night and will be back late tomorrow afternoon.

Not sure who all may be showing up tomorrow but we will be at MAM looking for parts for our 67. If we dont catch you there then we will see you at Bob's after 4 pm. :worship:

So sad that we wont't meet this time. It is certainly way too far of a trip to drive if you are sick.

Hope you feel better soon, here are some hugs and kisses for you ....... xoxoxoxoxoxo ..... to make you better. Take care.

Schooley, so sad you won't be with the group @ BobFest...you know we will be talking about you. Get well soon. Maybe we will see you @ Road Atlanta.

Decided it was too nice a day to sit around the house. Changed out my rear bearing assemblies yesterday and hadn't done a proper roadtest since getting a 4-wheel alignment this morning. So the next thing I know, I'm in Effingham. I got to MAM around 3PM and waited for any XLRs to show up.None did. As the Corvettes lined up for the fun run, I positioned myself so I could see any XLR in the line up that I may have missed. NOT. So I jumped in the line 2-3 cars from the rear. (in case an XLR joined in late) and lo and behold...

Fun Run was pretty cool. Lots of cornfields. Police escort was nice and there was plenty of parking downtown close to the square.

Anyway ended up downtown in overflow parking at a bank near the Weiner Mobile. That is when I forced Steve & Gizmo go get their photo taken.
And I usually avoid cameras. It was great to meet you and Steve.

Yeah, downtown Effingham was nothing like Bowling Green.

OBTW, I scouted out the parking situation and we're moved to the end of the pavement from Gate 4 and to the left. There may be one other club parked over there, every one else is where we were last year which is to the right of that road starting where we were last year and spreading out back toward where they have us this time. Our spot is high and dry, whereas, a couple others looked like lake Volvo:chuckle.

Any one coming in on I-70 East, add an extra half hour to your estimated drive time for construction. Vandalia is the worst, with 12 miles of one lane construction zone. As soon as P.J. gets off work, we'll be on our way. See everyone tomorrow nite.

Why don't you just get out the AK-47 or the Cannon!!:laugh::laugh:

AK! Cannon! I was going to ask if I should bring some of my "toys" then I remembered that IL prevents me from having a loaded firearm, concealed or not, since I do not posses an IL FOID as a non-resident.

Anyone who carries should take note that your CCDW license from your home state is NOT valid in IL. So to be legal unload your weapon, put it in a case and out of your reach.

Non-residents may possess loaded firearms if the weapons are employed on publicly recognized target ranges, at bonafide gun shows or in a hunting format where the individual possesses a non-resident hunting license.
Absent these narrow exceptions, Illinois prohibits the open or concealed carry of firearms
in all public areas.

Welcome!

And this was my driveway yesterday. Yes we have been working hard getting this place back up to speed. Not gonna make it but it was not for giving it a great try by a lot of folks. This was yesterday with several contractors present.;
